Sports and Politics

It used to be the sports section was a place to escape to to get away from politics. But in the last couple of years, sports columnists have begun to fancy themselves as op-ed writers. Norman Chad, who I usually like, writes on boycotting the Beijing Olympics. It's not a bad column, until he gets serious on us...
By the way, how come Americans always occupy the moral high ground? If the next Olympics were held in the United States, shouldn't other nations boycott because of our occupation of Iraq and because of Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo and the CIA's secret prisons?

And why didn't African nations, among others, boycott previous U.S.-based Olympics? America: Slavery Through 1865, Jim Crow Laws Through 1964 and Racism 24-7 Through Today.

This is a man whose great contribution to society is covering poker tournaments for cable TV.
